This page is a listing of less-involved opening labs and activities. These labs are for continued practice and application of concepts or skills learned in lecture or the guided labs. It is recommended you have the guided labs available to you for reference while you work on those on this page.

Jogging In Joint - Three Points In Space With Lasers

Prerequisite Knowledge:

Required Preliminary Setup:

  • Laser ON
  • Robot at HOME Position
  • Targets (numbered papers attached to the walls at various points around the room)

Concepts Introduced or Reinforced:

Activity:

Clear all the alarms on the teach pendant. Let go of SHIFT and press COORD. Notice the yellow box that appears on the top right of your teach pendant's display. Press COORD again and cycle through the various jogging frames. Keep going until you land on JOINT.

Changing the jogging frame will automatically reduce robot speed. Hit the speed + button on the bottom middle of the teach pendant keypad. Notice in the top right of the screen, a percentage is shown. This is the current speed setting. Adjust speed to 20%.

Hold SHIFT and press the +X jog key. In the JOINT mode, this represents the first joint on the robot, its rotational base. Notice the key has J1 on it as well, this refers to the joint number.

Experiment with the various joints, noting which joint is capable of what motion. When you are confident you have identified each joint, jog the robot's joints so that the laser points to the first target in the room.

Call your instructor over to check off you have completed the first target. Repeat for each target around the room. Try to use different joints each time, to reinforce your understanding of each joint's capabilities.

Simple Shapes

Prerequisite Knowledge:

Required Preliminary Setup:

Concepts Introduced or Reinforced:

  • Jogging (in World)
  • Teaching Points
  • Motion Types
  • Program Planning

Activity:

Print the following image and tape it to the robot's bed at a location inside the inner circle indicated on the bed. Follow the instructions written in the image.

Choose Your Own Points

Prerequisite Knowledge:

Required Preliminary Setup:

Concepts Introduced or Reinforced:

Activity:

Print the following image and plan a program to trace it with the laser. Mark up the paper with where you would place points. Remember, a circle instruction requires two points - midpoint and endpoint. Additionally, circle instructions are only capable of 180 degrees, so larger circle components will require two circle instructions to complete.

Tape it to the bed, inside the circle indicated on the surface. Enter your program into the teach pendant and teach the points you planned. Test and Debug as necessary.
